Do You Need A Special Education Advocate?

The Role of A Special Education Advocate

Is your child struggling in school but you’re not sure why?

Do you need help interpreting your child’s educational evaluations and determining how the results should shape his or her education program?

Are you wondering if the school placement is the most appropriate one?

How can you tell if your child is making progress?

Are you unsure whether the school is providing all the services that your child needs to be successful?
An experienced professional advocate works with you at all stages of your journey through the special education system.  Usually someone who has a special education degree, has a child or other family member with special needs, or has worked in a related field.

Special education advocates facilitate collaboration and ask questions with the common goal of securing the best possible education for your child. Through a team approach, advocates facilitate the IEP process, to support parents and teachers in addressing your child's disability and how it affects their ability to be educated.

Note that a special education advocate is not typically a licensed, practicing attorney, but is well versed in the special education laws and regulations of the districts, as well as the Federal and State education laws.
